Student Visa Documents: A Complete Checklist
Most student visa refusals come down to paperwork rather than eligibility. Requirements vary by country, but the following covers what is almost always needed.
Academic records
Transcripts and certificates for SEE, +2 and any bachelor's study, officially translated into English where required.
English test result
A valid IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score meeting your university's minimum. Results have an expiry date, usually two years, so check yours is still valid at the time of visa lodgement.
University offer letter
Your confirmed offer, plus proof of any deposit paid.
Proof of funds
Evidence you can cover tuition and living costs, typically bank statements, an education loan sanction letter, and sponsor documents. Immigration officers look for funds that have been held for a reasonable period rather than deposited immediately before applying, so plan this early.
Passport and photographs
A passport valid well beyond your intended course, and photographs to the destination country's specification.
Statement of purpose
An honest, specific explanation of why this course, this university and this country, and what you intend to do afterwards. Generic statements are a common weakness.
Health and character
Medical examination by an approved panel physician, police clearance where required, and health insurance for the destination country.
